Reshaping the Future for Farmed Animals: Mercy For Animals’ 10-Year Strategy

Lupemaria Beal August 6, 2025

After 25 years of tireless advocacy for farmed animals, Mercy For Animals is proud to reveal the next phase in our mission with our theory of change—a bold, dynamic blueprint for reshaping the future for animals around the globe.

Ambitious Goals for Farmed Animals

The global aim of Mercy For Animals is to alleviate suffering for farmed animals by changing how the public views factory farming, making plant-based foods more accessible, and encouraging governments to support plant-based solutions.

Three key focus areas fuel the vital work of Mercy For Animals Malaysia:

  1. Alleviate suffering for farmed animals by working with governments and top food-industry players to secure policies that end the worst cruelty for the most animals.
  2. Shift narratives and build mass support through campaigns, cultivating empathy for farmed animals, and mobilising people to take action.
  3. Drive down demand for animal products by inspiring plant-based shifts that create cultural tipping points and move institutions to embrace plant-forward food policies and climate solutions.

To bring our strategic vision to life, we’ve launched a newly redesigned website. We invite you to explore it and dive deeper into our work ahead. You’ll discover ways to get involved and help fuel our transformative movement in Malaysia and other countries in Southeast Asia. With more tools and opportunities to act, it’s now easier than ever to make a real difference.

25 Years of Progress for Farmed Animals

For more than two decades, dedicated animal advocates have driven the organisation’s efforts, creating a movement that cannot be ignored. Their support powers the passion and inspires Mercy For Animals to push for meaningful change.

This is what 25 years of global progress for farmed animals looks like:

  • Mercy For Animals has helped secure policies to ease suffering for over eight billion animals each year.
  • Our food policy program has helped schools and other institutions serve more than 40 million plant-based meals.
  • Over 30,000 restaurants, coffee shops, and schools have increased their plant-based offerings.
  • More than 580 companies covering 900 brands have committed to ending the worst abuses in their supply chains.
  • Our public policy work has helped pass 26 government policies that improve welfare for farmed animals.
  • Seven factory farms have been repurposed for crop production through The Transfarmation Project®.
  • With bases in six countries and even farther-reaching campaigns, Mercy For Animals empowers global advocacy for farmed animals.

Your dedication and support are the driving force behind our movement. Together, we’re building a future where compassion prevails and no animal endures cruelty. Get an inside look at our theory of change. (PDF)
